About Dal Pottery

Dal Pottery was founded by Korean-born ceramic artist Min Sim and based in West Michigan.

“Dal” (달) means “moon” in Korean, a name inspired by the Korean moon jar and its quiet, imperfect beauty. My work is rooted in the same idea—that beauty doesn’t have to come from perfect symmetry or flawless surfaces.

Each piece is individually made by hand, primarily on the pottery wheel. I make functional ceramics as well as sculptural work, from everyday cups and small vessels to moon jars and one-of-a-kind pieces. Because everything is made individually, no two pieces are exactly alike.

Working with clay has taught me to appreciate the unexpected—the slight shift of a form, the movement of a glaze, and the marks left by the making process. Rather than trying to erase those differences, I allow them to become part of each piece.

Dal Pottery is my way of sharing that quiet beauty with others: objects made slowly, meant to be held, used, noticed, and lived with.
